Training persons with disabilities (PwD’s)for a brighter future

Growel’s 101 Mall partners with TRRAIN to organise vocational training programmes and provide employment opportunities to persons with speech and hearing impairments

Mumbai, January 24: This New Year, Growel’s 101 Mall in Kandivali has embarked on a new journey. The mall in partnership with TRRAIN ( Trust for Retailers & Retail Associates of India)  has undertaken an initiative of training persons with disabilities through systematic vocational training and employment.

On January 22, PANKH — Wings of Destiny, a training centre was inaugurated within the premises of the mall to empower persons with speech and hearing impairments to succeed in retail by training them for sustainable livelihood opportunities. The programme that spans over 45 days consists of full-fledged training on various subjects including the basics of Retail, basic English and life skills like personality development, grooming, team building etc. The sessions will be a continuous initiative by TRRAIN trust with regular modules and training programmes being held for batches. So far, 20 students have enrolled for the training in two batches. Around 6,500 persons with disabitlities have already been trained by TRRAIN across the country.

The highlight of the programme is that once the training culminates, the trained individuals will be placed in various sectors like retail, hospitality and entertainment.

Speaking about the initiative, Vikas Shetty, Mall Head – Growels 101 Mall said, “We are glad that we could partner with PANKH to set up this continuous training programme for persons with disabilities within the premises of our mall. This is our contribution to bring them into the mainstream because they are very talented and deserve equal training and employment opportunities. We hope that we can replicate more such programmes like this one.”

Pankh has given wings to over 6500 persons with disabilities (PwD’s) but the population of persons with disabilities in India is more than 26 million, with potential waiting to be tapped. Collaborating with an organization like Growel’s 101 Mall would help us to train more PwDs and offer better career opportunities for them. We look forward to creating livelihoods for many PwD’s through this association

PANKH – Wings of Destiny is an initiative by Trust for Retailers & Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN). The initiative aims to train people with disabilities (PwD) and provide them employment opportunities in the retail industry. It aims to create sustainable livelihoods for PwD and also promote inclusive growth in the retail sector.
